Application Tips for Maharashtra

1

IMPORTANT: Mumbai consumers must apply separately to BEST (bes.org.in) or Adani Electricity (adanielectricity.com) — NOT through MSEDCL.

2

Maharashtra has the highest residential tariff in India (₹8/kWh) — making solar ROI exceptional (3.5–4.5 year payback).

3

MSEDCL's state subsidy (₹5,000 via MSEDCL for non-Mumbai areas) is processed automatically through the national portal.

4

Maharashtra has a very large MNRE-empanelled vendor pool — compare at least 5 quotes in your district.

Key Insight for Maharashtra

Maharashtra's ₹8/kWh tariff is India's highest. A 3 kW system generating 400+ units/month saves approximately ₹38,400/year — exceptional economics.

Vendor Selection Advice

Pune and Mumbai have the most competitive solar markets in Maharashtra — get 5+ quotes. Check if your housing society has negotiated a bulk rate — many Pune and Mumbai societies have.

Everything you need to know about PM Surya Ghar subsidy, installation, and net metering

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a central government scheme launched in February 2024 with a ₹75,021 crore budget. It targets 1 crore Indian households to install rooftop solar systems. Eligibility: any residential electricity consumer with a valid connection, own/leased property with suitable roof space (~10 sq.m per kW), and structural load capacity. Government employees are eligible; commercial establishments are not under this specific scheme.

Calculation Methodology & Data Sources

Subsidy Calculation
Central subsidy tiers sourced directly from MNRE gazette notification dated Feb 2024 and updated policy circulars.
State Electricity Rates
Average residential tariff rates for each state from respective DISCOM published tariff orders (FY 2026–27 data).
Solar Generation Estimate
Monthly generation = System kW × State sun hours × 30 days × 0.8 performance ratio (industry standard for rooftop).
Payback Calculation
Net cost ÷ Annual savings from bill offset. Does not include potential net metering export credit (which improves payback further).
CO₂ Avoided
Uses India CEA grid emission factor of 0.71 kg CO₂ per kWh for 2023–24, as per latest published grid emission factor.
